MBA Specialist Construction Industry” realigned

Digitalization, sustainability and volatile markets present managers in the construction industry with complex challenges. In order to master this successfully, the Krems University for Continuing Education and the BWZ Upper Austria Construction Academy are launching the newly aligned “MBA Specialist in Construction Industry” on November 7, 2025. The course is aimed specifically at decision-makers as well as specialists and young managers in the construction industry who want to supplement their technical or commercial training with in-depth management knowledge.

Complex challenges

Technical know-how forms the basis of many positions in the construction industry, but leadership requires additional qualifications: “In everyday life, it is important not only to implement construction projects smoothly, but also to steer companies safely through complex challenges - with strategic foresight, courageous decisions and a deep understanding of economic relationships,” says Erich Kremsmair, head of the course. The “MBA Specialist Construction Industry” imparts practical knowledge of construction balance sheet, cost accounting in strategic management, controlling and leadership as well as methodological skills for the development of sustainable strategies based on industry trends.

At the heart of the MBA course are 16 modules, which are carried out part-time on Fridays and Saturdays at the BWZ Upper Austria Building Academy. The students acquire industry-related commercial and strategic skills in order to be able to take on management responsibility. Through practical project work and an MBA thesis with business-relevant topics, graduates create immediate added value for their companies. “Our MBA Specialist Construction Management graduates lead organizational units and teams responsibly, think in complex contexts and are able to reflect on the long-term effects of their decisions. In this way, they actively shape the further development of their company and the construction industry," says Kremsmair, explaining the lasting impact of the MBA. In addition to location-independent distance learning modules, the course is supplemented by study trips that enable international perspectives.

The qualification of managers is becoming increasingly important. Companies benefit from employees who act strategically, recognize innovation potential and make targeted use of it. The large graduate and company network that the Krems University for Continuing Education and the BWZ Upper Austria Building Academy offer also wants to guarantee new perspectives and contacts.

Requirements and graduation

People with an internationally recognized university degree and at least two years of relevant professional experience are admitted to the course. Alternatively, entry is also possible with a university entrance qualification and six years or without a university entrance qualification with ten years of relevant professional experience. The prerequisite for admission is an interview with the director of studies. The “MBA Specialist in Construction Management” from the University of Krems for Continuing Education includes 120 ECTS points and culminates in the academic degree of MBA (“Master of Business Administration”).
