In a newly opened hotel, the Viennese weave runs through the entire house as a design theme. It is traditionally found in seating furniture and is also interpreted in large format as a bedhead or semi-transparent partition.

Closely intertwined
The Arcotel AQ recently opened under the motto “Let your dreams fly”, whose interior cleverly combines Viennese charm with a bit of modernity. The four-star hotel with 157 rooms is part of the newly developed Althan Quartier above Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof in Vienna's ninth district. In keeping with the new building, the hotel is characterized by a modern design concept in warm earth tones and open lobby areas.

Capturing the Viennese style

Separate rooms with colorful velvet sofas serve as oases of communication and enjoyment, while birdcage armchairs in the fin de siècle style serve for relaxation and are a special eye-catcher. The typical Viennese weave - known from classic Thonet chairs - runs as a design theme throughout the entire house, reminiscent of the classic Viennese coffee house style. This concept was developed by Interior design studio Destilat. “We have designed a well-thought-out spatial structure for both room categories that makes optimal use of every corner and at the same time presents itself as open, airy and distinctive,” say the designers.
Refined dual function
The Viennese weave is translated into large format in the rooms and serves as a semi-transparent partition in the form of a striking headboard. Behind them, portraits of personalities such as Mozart, Freud, Prinz Eugen and Adele Bloch-Bauer appear in an ironically alienated manner and at the same time function as bathroom mirrors. Other elements also have a dual function: the dressing table and desk merge seamlessly with the washbasin. The zoning of the open room concept is achieved through the targeted use of colors and materials: a light carpet and light wall and ceiling colors in the sleeping area contrast with the consistent, mud-colored tone of the bathroom and anteroom.

Harmonious interaction

The company is responsible for the implementation of the carpentry work Seliger carpentry from Vienna responsible. The textile covering of the room divider consists of upholstery straps that interpret the oversized Viennese weave and give the element both structure and lightness. In combination with the custom-made carpentry work, which consists of a combination of solid wood elements for the frames of the room dividers and the boxes and laminated panels, this creates a harmonious interplay of craftsmanship, materiality and design.
